APPN Engages NBTE on New Accreditation Framework for Private Polytechnics

Following extensive consultations with stakeholders, APPN submitted a comprehensive position paper to the National Board for Technical Education on proposed changes to the accreditation framework that governs privately-owned polytechnics and monotechnics in Nigeria.

The position paper, developed over three months of member consultations across all six geopolitical zones, raises concerns about the financial burden of new laboratory infrastructure requirements and proposes a phased implementation timeline that allows institutions adequate preparation time.

APPN President, in a statement accompanying the submission, noted that while APPN fully supports improvements to quality standards, the implementation must be realistic and equitable: "Our member institutions are willing and able to meet high standards, but they need reasonable timelines and transition support to do so successfully."

APPN Responds to Proposed Increase in JAMB Cut-Off for Polytechnics

APPN has formally responded to the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board's (JAMB) proposal to increase the minimum cut-off score for admission into polytechnics. The association's position is that while academic quality must be protected, a blunt cut-off increase without corresponding improvements in secondary school preparation would disproportionately harm access to technical education.
